As I write, it is 1:15 pm here in Northern California. It is a beautiful 73 degrees! It is sunny and green and OH how I LOVE this weather. I don't think it will last, but for today I am feeling "springy!" I am posting two pictures of flowers in my back yard as well as one of the hills behind my house. Happy St. Patrick's Day. If you didn't wear green today, pinch yourself and know it was from me. Did it hurt? OK, I am sorry. Now you can hug yourself from me :) I hope everyone had a great day! No pinching me btw...I wore a green shirt. You may pinch me if you like, but only on the bottom...naughty, naughty. "Somebody" needs to tell my that I am a bad girl.

Completed Tattoo
Left Shoulder Butterfly: seen as the personification of a person's soul; whether they be living, dying, or already dead. One Japanese superstition says that if a butterfly enters your guestroom and perches behind the bamboo screen, the person whom you most love is coming to see you. In some old cultures, butterflies also symbolize rebirth into a new life after being inside a cocoon for a long period of time. grace, beauty, serenity.
Right Shoulder Hummingbird: Messenger, stopper of time. Hummingbird represents optimism and sweetness. Being able to roll with the punches is an attribute of Hummingbird. It is also a symbol of love, joy, and beauty. The hummingbird is also able to fly backwards, teaching us that we can look back on our past. But, this bird also teaches that we must not dwell on our past; we need to move forward. When the hummingbird hovers over flowers while drinking nectar, we learn that we should savor each moment, and appreciate the things we love. Also, my Pop had hummingbird feeders all over his porch before he left us, and he loved to watch those little guys fly all the time. They were special to him and he was special to me so I used it in a tattoo in honor of him. Finally, one of the things that I have read is that hummingbirds are small, surprisingly strong, intelligent, diligent, fiercely territorial and loyal.
The English Words:
Love--
A deep, tender, ineffable feeling of affection and solicitude toward a person, such as that arising from kinship, recognition of attractive qualities, or a sense of underlying oneness. A feeling of intense desire and attraction toward a person with whom one is disposed to make a pair; the emotion of sex and romance.
Faith--
Confident belief in the truth, value, or trustworthiness of a person, idea, or thing.Belief that does not rest on logical proof or material evidence.
Faith--
Confident belief in the truth, value, or trustworthiness of a person, idea, or thing.Belief that does not rest on logical proof or material evidence.
Large Chinese Writing/Middle:
Wisdom--
the quality or state of being wise; knowledge of what is true or right coupled with just judgment as to action; sagacity, discernment, or insight.
Intellect--
Intellect--
the power or faculty of the mind by which one knows or understands, as distinguished from that by which one feels and that by which one wills; the understanding; the faculty of thinking and acquiring knowledge. The capacity for thinking and acquiring knowledge, esp. of a high or complex order; mental capacity.
This tattoo was carefully placed directly between the two on my shoulders because of the fact that whom a person (ME) chooses to love and put faith in should be carefully balanced by wisdom and intellect. Some of you know that I have failed in the past and the pain it has caused me. I will try much harder and be much more careful in the future.
Koi Fish: one of the most popular and beautiful of Japanese tattoo symbols – a beauty which belies its symbolic meaning. Although Chinese in origin, the carp is now widely celebrated in Japan. It is said to climb waterfalls bravely, and, if caught, it lies upon the cutting board awaiting the knife without a quiver, not unlike a samurai (warrior) facing a sword. This theme dates back to ancient China, where a legend tells of how any koi that succeeded in climbing the falls at a point called Dragon Gate (on the Yellow River) would be transformed into a dragon. Based on that legend, it became a symbol of worldly aspiration and advancement. In tattoo imagery, especially in combination with flowing water, it symbolizes much the same: courage, the ability to attain high goals, and overcoming life's difficulties. Also, a koi swimming upstream represents the ability to face adversity, while the koi swimming downstream represents having the ability to conquer adversity.
Chinese Writing in Koi:
Left=Joy--
the emotion of great delight or happiness caused by something exceptionally good or satisfying; keen pleasure; elation. A source or cause of keen pleasure or delight; something or someone greatly valued or appreciated. The expression or display of glad feeling; festive gaiety. A state of happiness or felicity
Right=sorrow--
distress caused by loss, affliction, disappointment, etc.; grief, sadness, or regret. A cause or occasion of grief or regret, as an affliction, a misfortune, or trouble. The expression of grief, sadness, disappointment, or the like.
The meaning of those with regard to JennyBean is self explanatory to those who know me.
NOTE:
I personally love tattoos and think they are beautiful. I think they should have meaning to the person on whose body they are placed, but know that is not always the case. I am a bit of a tattoo snob now and hate the one on my ankle as it is "flash/wall art" that has no special meaning other than I got in while I was in MP school. I will never get another piece that has no personal meaning again. I love the new one so much not just because I think it is pretty, but also because the whole thing is an artistic representation of what I have come through in my life (some things with scars both emotional and physical) and what I will most likely have to go through in my future. It is a symbol of both what I was, what I am, and what I hope to become. I think that I am finished getting tattoos now...ONE NEVER KNOWS :) I mean really, there is still space on my back you know. Yes mom...it's pretty and it's beautiful artwork and I know you wish it wasn't a permanent part of my body. You aren't the only mom who hates tattoos :)

Straight and Narrow
Well, we straightened the girls' hair last night. They now think that they can wear their hair down without worry as if they are little white girls with bone straight hair. Problem is...they aren't. Their hair is not the same as mine and their friends' even with the straightener in it. Madison wore hers in just a pony tail today and we will see in an hour or so how she feels about that when (and if) her hair is full of rats and hurts to comb. I was able to get Sierra to see reason and let me put it is a single braid. I also tried to get them to understand that they would be hotter with their hair down--even in a pony. There was no reasoning with them so I was out of luck.
I have seven of the ten Independance Day dragonflies done and will be starting on a few spiders along the same line. I hope to sell them at the Arts and Crafts fair at Patch on Friday, 4 July. Once can hope. I will of course have a bunch of other colors that day as well. One thing I forgot to mention about these little guys is that they look great as Christmas ornaments and all you need for that is some ribbon! The lights on the tree look really pretty. I am thinking about creating a small web for the spiders. I will know if I really want to do it if and when it gets done I suppose. I am just trying to keep it mixed up a bit so that I don't get bored with it. Of course I still have two different very large cross stitch projects to do AND a whole bunch of books that I bought during the school year to read over the summer when I had more time. So I have plenty to do that will switch it up, but maybe I will just take a nap :)

Trying Something New
I have to say yet again that we had a great time today playing with the Parrish girls. I have so many pictures to choose from for the photo album. I mean I took over 200, JennyP took some, and Big Michael took some. JennyP told me that between the three of us we had over 700. UMMM, maybe we went a bit overboard. The good news is that there are so many to choose from that I can pour over them for hours. The bad new is actually the very same :)

A Lot of Work
Well, I spent a few hours in the flower garden yesterday. My legs are sore from squatting so much. I did go to the buildings that they are tearing up to get stuff, but traded Cindy D for her Hastas because I get partial sun (which they need) and she gets full sun. They are pretty, but now that area is missing some stuff in the front. I will see what I can do. I was also weeding the flower area and digging down to put bricks. You know the border kind that you can't just put on the edge. My across the street neighbor's house still makes ours look like the ghetto though. I have attached some pictures to this post. It definitely still needs work but I do the best I can. I am in the process of deciding what I want to plant in the empty spots, but I know I have to think of something. I can't have the other building showing us up. I want some more red, pink and purple flowers. I want lots of pretty colors.

Oh! speaking of lot of pretty colors, I am ordering some wire, glass beads, and the pliers necessary to make the dragonflies like my Aunt does. Right now I have 15 hanging in my window along with some sun catchers she made me. I am hoping to be able to sell the dragonflies either on ETSY or at the Patch Multi craft Center. If not...I guess I'll have a lot on my windows. They are fun to make and the finished product is rewarding. My Aunt Ann sells them for $5.00 a piece to include the little suction cups so that they can be hung in the window. I love them personally and they make me feel happy. Maybe I am easily pleased. I am attaching pictures of them so that people who visit the BLOG can see them and let me know what they think. I know my JennyP likes them and even has some of her own. I encouraged my Aunt to sell them online, but I don't know if I was taken seriously. I made several of the ones that are in my house, so I know how to do it. I think it would be fun to try my hand at it. There are more, but I think there are enough posted.
Finally, Cooper has now been neutered and we can pick him up in a half hour. The receptionist told me that he did very well. Poor little guy. Now he will have a real reason to be scared of the VET. I think that I would be too. :) If he ends up needing a little cone or something I will post a picture of that too. UPDATE: Cooper is home safe and sound. He is sore but has used the bathroom and our biggest problem so far is that we have to keep him from playing with Buddy and visa v
erse for around ten days. No cone unless he won't stop licking the sutures. I am glad that he made it through OK though.
