EReader and Books

Ok, be prepared because I am about to rant and rave a little. You know, go off on a tangent. First, let me say that while I am sure Kindle lovers will hate this post, I don't care! I began researching Ereaders a few years ago and decided on the Sony instead of the Kindle. I did this for a few VERY important reasons. The first reason is that it has a place for added memory cards-up to 16 gig- so if I want to keep all my books on the reader at once, I can. The second reason is that the Sony does not require the "Kindle" version of publications. It supports several different formats without the requirement of sending it in to change it over. That being said, I am not sure if Kindle still requires that change over, but I really don't care. It is too late. I love my Sony.
After my research, my husband bought me the 545 non-touch version. I fell in love with it and often wondered what I ever did without it. It is by no means the red-headed step child to the Kindle. In fact, I think it's better. Then, my JennyP bought the touch version with the built in light (which they no longer sell) and loved hers too. I couldn't see the need for a touch version, but for my birthday this year my mother bought me one (I bought the cover with a light) and she took my old one. SOOOOOOOO, I love the touch version, the cover with a light, and my wall charger. I don't have the one that is wireless, but don't see the need for that either. I am willing to admit that at some point I might want that one, but that won't be for some time.
The books can be bought on the Sony site, or at other ebook retailers. Many of them (classics) can be found online at other sites and they are free. The plus is that I don't have to have the kindle people change them to kindle version because I didn't buy it :) So, now on to books. I recently finished the book Still Alice, Help, Sarah's Key, and am nearly done with Fireflies in December (that one is free right now on the Sony site), I have read many others recently, but those have been my favorites. I got Sarah's Key because JennyP suggested it, and the others because they caught my eye. I have loved them all. Ok, I think I am done...Kindle lovers...Bring it on :)

you go girl!! Sell that Sony! We SOny readers have to stick together:) I'm going to look for that free book you mentioned (I just looked and it's not free anymore. How do you find the free section anyway?). I'm sure the Kindle is just lovely but I do wonder why more people pick that then the Sony? Do they know something we don't know??

Go to the Ebook store and click on bargain priced. All the free (and cheap) ebooks are on that page. I have found some pretty good ones there. As for the kindle...I too am sure that it is fine. But I am sure they DON'T know something we don't.

I resist the ereader, because reading books is such a tactile thing for me.

But, I'm all for reading, so that's very good.

And, have you read "The Book Thief"? One of the best books I've read in a very long time. I've heard of Kristin Hannah but not read her, thank you.

Mimi, I have always been a book in hand kind of girl BUT when you hate to get rid of them like I do and then finally give in and get rid of them---at no small pain to my heart, you finally get used to the idea that if I do it this way, I can keep them all and still have room. Keep in mind that I got rid of LITERALLY over 100 books and still have boxes, and a HUGE bookshelf full. It was time to down size. Now I can't remember what I ever did without it. :)
